Kuwait City, Sept 20 (KUNA) -- September 20:
1962: Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah issues Decree-Law No. 60 of 1962, establishing the Kuwait Transport Company with a capital of one million Kuwaiti dinars.
1991: Kuwait and the United States of America sign a ten-year defense agreement concerning defense cooperation between the two countries. Its provisions include defending Kuwait’s sovereignty and independence from any external aggression, and promoting peace and stability across all Gulf states.
1994: Kuwait signs the Convention on Nuclear Safety, adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, aiming to maintain a high level of safety at nuclear facilities.
2000: Rami Fahid Al-Daihani wins Kuwait’s first Olympic medal, securing third place in the men’s double trap shooting event at the 27th Olympic Games held in Sydney, Australia.
2001: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) elects Kuwait as a member of its Board of Governors, the Agency’s highest executive body after the General Conference.
2002: The Ministry of Transport approves the largest reduction in international telecommunications rates in its history, with some countries seeing reductions of over 70 percent, making Kuwait’s international call rates the lowest among Arab Gulf states.
2010: Kuwait and the Russian Federation sign a five-year memorandum of cooperation in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, aiming to enhance bilateral cooperation in nuclear fields.
2010: The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development grants Kenya 5.9 million Kuwaiti dinars to improve the efficiency of transport services and traffic safety.
2018: The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signs a bilateral agreement with Jordan to alleviate Jordan’s debt burden to the Fund by rescheduling 17 loans totaling $300.7 million.
2021: Kuwait presides over the 65th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the first time since joining the Agency more than five decades ago. The General Conference is the IAEA’s highest executive body.
2022: The Kuwait National Seismic Network at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research announces the detection of a 3.3-magnitude earthquake (Richter scale) southeast of Al-Abdali, north of the country.
2023: The Ministry of Oil announces that Kuwait has won four seats on the executive committees of the World Petroleum Council for the 2023–2026 term for the first time, following elections held in Calgary, Canada. (End) M.B.R. / N.S.N.
