UN and GCC condemn Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and targeting of civilian facilities

New York, 19 Sep (KUNA) -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi, condemned on Saturday the Houthi militia attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, warning of their serious impact on the region's security and stability.

The GCC Secretariat General stated in a statement that the remarks were made during a meeting between Guterres and AlBudaiwi at the UN headquarters, on the sidelines of the GCC Secretary-General's participation in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

The statement added that the two sides exchanged views on the latest regional developments, particularly the Houthi attacks on the Kingdom and the targeting of civilian facilities, and the threat they pose to regional security and stability.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed the cooperation relationship between the GCC and the United Nations, and ways to enhance and consolidate it to serve their common interests, as well as several regional files and the efforts being made regarding them.

The statement noted that Guterres praised the development, progress, and prosperity achieved by the GCC member states, as well as their regional and international efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability.
