Occupation authorities announce closure of Gaza Strip crossings for two days citing holidays

Gaza - 19 - 9 (KUNA) -- The Gaza Strip's border and crossing authorities announced on Saturday that Israeli occupation authorities will close all of the Strip's crossings on Sunday and Monday, citing Israeli holidays, which will suspend the movement of people and the entry of goods during the closure period.

In a press statement, the authorities said the closure would include the Rafah land crossing in the south of the Strip, designated for the movement of people, and the Kerem Abu Salem crossing, designated for the entry of goods, in addition to the Erez (Zekeim) crossing in the north of the Strip. This will restrict the flow of supplies to markets at a time when the Strip is suffering acute shortages of several basic commodities.

The continued closure is expected to affect the availability of essential goods, particularly infant formula, dairy products, cheese, meat, flour, and other food necessities, amid the difficult humanitarian and economic conditions faced by the Strip's residents.

The closure of the Rafah crossing also threatens to delay the evacuation of critical medical cases requiring urgent treatment in hospitals outside the Gaza Strip, particularly patients who have been waiting for months to complete the necessary coordination procedures and approvals to exit through the crossing in coordination with the World Health Organization. This could further deteriorate their health conditions and delay their access to the necessary medical care.
