Yemen: Aden Police Announce Thwarting of Plot to Target Security and Military Leaders and Government Facilities
Aden - 19 - 9 (KUNA) -- The Aden Capital Police announced on Saturday evening that they had thwarted a plot to target security and military forces, as well as vital facilities and sites, using explosive devices. The announcement followed a security operation that resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the seizure of an explosive device and materials linked to the plot.
Colonel Masilh Al-Dharhani, head of the Dar Saad police division in Aden, stated in a statement released by the Aden Police that the operation was the result of investigation, surveillance, and intelligence gathering, which led to identifying the suspect, arresting him, and finding the explosive device and related materials in his possession.
He added that security agencies are continuing their investigation and inquiry procedures to uncover the nature of the plot, as well as the individuals and entities involved, and to trace all leads that could lead to other implicated elements.
The Aden Police statement clarified that the suspect admitted to receiving an explosive device with the intent to use it to target a military force on one of Aden’s main roads.
It was revealed that the suspect admitted he was awaiting a cash payment and a vehicle after carrying out the operation, and that the objective was to create chaos and undermine security and stability in Aden, with support and funding from leaders linked to the Houthi militia who are present in areas under its control.
The statement confirmed that, through investigations, the Aden Police obtained information about other explosive devices found at the suspect’s residence. These devices had been brought from a Houthi militia leader in Sanaa approximately a year ago and were intended to target officers in the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen, as well as military leaders in the Al-Emaliq (Giants) Brigade and the government’s Shield of the Nation forces.
The statement emphasized the continuation of surveillance, monitoring, and proactive security operations to thwart sabotage plots and pursue anyone proven to be involved in activities that threaten security and stability.
