Egyptian Foreign Minister and Senior Presidential Advisor Discuss Regional Developments

Cairo, Sept 19 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Badr Abdel Ati held a telephone conversation today, Saturday, with Mas’ad Boulus, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Arab and African Affairs, to discuss developments in the regional situation.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a statement that the call addressed the latest developments concerning the crisis with Iran, emphasizing the importance of ensuring freedom of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the rules and provisions of international law.

It clarified that the two sides discussed ongoing moves and communications aimed at halting escalation in Sudan, where Abdel Ati stressed the importance of building on current efforts to end the conflict and ensure an environment conducive to finding political solutions, while re-emphasizing the values of dialogue and negotiation. He reiterated Egypt’s steadfast commitment to preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions.

According to the statement, the call also touched upon the situation in Libya and ways to achieve progress in the political process and end the division plaguing the country. Abdel Ati stressed that Egypt’s moves on the Libyan file are based on the priority of preserving Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, alongside supporting the unity of its national institutions.

In this context, he underscored the importance of integrating regional and international efforts supporting the Libyan political process, in a manner that helps Libyan parties reach a sustainable settlement that reflects their will and preserves the unity of the state and its institutions.
