Islamic Cooperation welcomes UN General Assembly's decision to allow Palestine to participate in the work of its 81st session

Jeddah, 18 Sep (KUNA) -- The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed on Friday the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of a resolution allowing the State of Palestine to participate in the current session's work via a recorded message, following the United States' decision to prevent the Palestinian delegation from participating in person, a move that undermines its internationally guaranteed rights.

The OIC stated in a statement that the support of 152 countries for the resolution reflects the international community's adherence to the State of Palestine's right to participate, respect for international law, and the host country's obligations.

The organization called on the United States to "reconsider its decision, which violates the UN Headquarters Agreement, its Charter, and relevant resolutions."

It reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its active engagement in the meetings of the session and the High-Level Week to support the rights of the Palestinian people, expand recognition of the State of Palestine, and secure its full membership in the United Nations. (End) F.N./R.J.
