European Union: Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia "unacceptable" and harmful to the global economy

Brussels, September 18 (KUNA) -- The European Union on Friday condemned the Houthi militia’s attacks on Saudi Arabia as “unacceptable,” warning that they harm the global economy and stressing the need to ensure freedom of navigation at sea, free from obstruction or tolls.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that she held a phone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, discussing diplomatic efforts to end the fighting in Yemen and restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

She added that Europe continues to assist in protecting shipping movements in the Red Sea from Houthi attacks, noting that the EU’s Operation Aspides has raised the alert level of its vessels in light of the deteriorating security situation, while continuing its mission of escorting ships.
