Spain announces its squad for the European Nations League matches after winning the 2026 World Cup

Madrid, 18 Sep (KUNA) -- Luis de la Fuente, head coach of the Spanish national football team, announced the squad for the first four matches of the 2026-2027 UEFA Nations League season, marking the team's first appearance since winning the World Cup for the second time in its history.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, De la Fuente said the 26-man squad includes three goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders, and eight forwards, with many players from the team that won the World Cup title last July remaining in the lineup.

Spain will open its campaign against England at Wembley Stadium on September 26, followed by hosting Ukraine in Seville three days later. The team will then face the Czech Republic in Oviedo on October 3, before concluding the match window against Croatia in Split three days later.

In goal, De la Fuente called up Unai Simon, David Raya, and Josep Martinez. The defensive line includes Pedro Porro, Imanol Alguacil, Pau Cubarsi, Marc Pubill, Eric Garcia, Marc Cucurella, Alejandro Grimaldo, and Dani Huisgen.

The midfield selection features Rodri, Martin Zubimendi, Pedri, Fabian Ruiz, Mikel Merino, Fermín Lopez, and Alex Baena. The attacking squad comprises Mikel Oyarzabal, Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres, Roberto Fernandez, Dani Olmo, Victor Munoz, Nico Williams, and Yereim Pinola.

Spain clinched the 2026 World Cup title by defeating Argentina in the final held in New Jersey, United States, on July 19, adding a second star to their jersey following their 2010 triumph. The Spanish Football Federation confirmed that the national team will wear the two-star badge for the first time during its participation in the UEFA Nations League.

Spain previously won the UEFA Nations League in the 2022-2023 season and finished as runner-up in the 2020-2021 edition.
