International Organization for Migration warns of depletion of emergency relief supplies in Sudan

Geneva, 18 Sep (KUNA) -- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) warned on Friday that emergency relief supplies allocated for Sudan through its Joint Humanitarian Corridor will run out in less than two weeks, as millions of displaced people face worsening humanitarian conditions due to ongoing fighting, floods, and heavy rains.

IOM Mission Chief in Sudan, Oumonde Okot, stated this during a press conference in Geneva, noting that the operational capacity of the Joint Humanitarian Corridor may not last beyond next December.

He explained that the corridor provides a logistical mechanism enabling more than 100 humanitarian organizations to deliver essential shelter materials, non-food items, and hygiene supplies to those in need quickly and efficiently across Sudan.

IOM renewed its call on donors to urgently provide the necessary funding to ensure the continued delivery of life-saving aid to those in need in Sudan amid the ongoing conflict and displacement.

He noted that the organization requires $15 million to maintain the Joint Humanitarian Corridor at its minimum operational capacity for 12 months in 2026, supporting approximately 305,000 people.

He also called for $42 million to expand the corridor’s operations and provide immediate life-saving assistance to up to one million people.
