Egyptian Foreign Minister: We will host a series of African events combining political and developmental dimensions
Cairo, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Atty announced on Thursday that his country will host an unprecedented series of exceptional African events in the city of Alamein. The events will feature three presidential summits that integrate political, institutional, developmental, and economic dimensions of cooperation across the African continent.
Abdel Atty explained during a joint press conference with George Ialomiteanu, President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), that the events will begin on October 2 and 3 with a series of side events organized by various Egyptian ministries, followed by the opening of the Alamein Africa Business Forum and the summit of the founding countries of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD). These activities will culminate in the African Union Summit, scheduled for the middle of the month on October 4.
He emphasized that these events take place at a critical juncture, as the African continent, like the rest of the world, faces intertwined challenges including geopolitical tensions, conflicts, protracted crises, terrorism, extremism, and transnational organized crime, as well as mounting pressures on supply chains, energy, food, and financing.
For his part, Ialomiteanu stated that the Forum represents an opportunity for the private sector to present its projects to heads of state and government, particularly in the energy sector. He stressed the importance of developing infrastructure across the African continent, focusing on connectivity and shipping along the West African coast.
He noted that the Forum focuses on development issues, doubling investments, and matters related to empowering the private sector and linking corridors across the continent, affirming the strong political will for the private sector to play its role in development.
He added that the primary objective is to achieve the desired integration and increase trade volumes among African countries, while intensifying cooperation among Global South nations. He confirmed that the Forum offers an opportunity to identify capacities within the continent and to work on projects aimed at localizing manufacturing. (End) A.S.M. / M.A.A.
