Cairo, Sept 17 (KUNA) – The Arab League stressed on Thursday the importance of the role of the Arab Council of Ministers of Cybersecurity in coordinating Arab efforts, unifying the Arab position, and safeguarding the interests of member states in relevant international forums. The League said in a statement that this came during a meeting held between the permanent representatives of member states and a delegation from the Arab Council of Ministers of Cybersecurity, led by the Council’s Secretary-General, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Faraj.

The statement quoted Assistant Secretary-General for the Palestine Sector at the Arab League, Ambassador Dr. Fa’id Mustafa, as saying at the outset of the meeting that achieving a safer and more reliable Arab cyberspace “has become a necessity, not a luxury,” in light of accelerating technological transformations, growing reliance on digital means, and the escalating volume and cross-border complexity of cyber threats.

Mustafa added that confronting these challenges requires a joint Arab response that includes developing legislation and regulatory frameworks, enhancing coordination mechanisms, exchanging expertise, experiences, and information, building national Arab capacities and competencies, and raising public awareness of cybersecurity issues.

The statement noted that the meeting discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and integration between the Arab Council of Ministers of Cybersecurity and member states, as well as various sectors and departments of the League’s General Secretariat, emphasizing the importance of developing coordination mechanisms, exchanging expertise and information, and building national Arab capacities and competencies in this field.

It clarified that the meeting included a comprehensive briefing presented by the Council’s delegation on the Council’s structure and operational mechanisms since its establishment, its key achievements in recent periods, outlines of the upcoming phase, and opportunities for cooperation and coordination between the Council and Arab states.

He affirmed that among the Council’s key objectives are coordinating Arab states’ efforts in various aspects related to cybersecurity, working to protect the interests of member states in relevant international organizations, and unifying the Arab position in the field of cybersecurity.

During the meeting, the delegation of the Arab Council of Ministers of Cybersecurity listened to and responded to interventions and inquiries from the representatives of member states. (End) M.M. / M.K.
