Egypt and Algeria Discuss Bilateral Relations and Several Regional Issues

Cairo, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Algerian counterpart Ahmed Attaf discussed on Thursday bilateral relations and a number of regional issues of mutual interest.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the discussions took place during a phone call between the two sides, in which they reviewed developments in the Palestinian cause, the situation in Sudan, and the African Sahel region, as well as the latest developments in Libya.

According to the statement, the two ministers emphasized the importance of continuing coordination within the framework of the trilateral neighboring countries mechanism regarding Libya, in a way that supports the path toward a political settlement and preserves Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

They exchanged views and assessments on regional developments and the impact of rapid changes on Arab national security, which requires strengthening solidarity and understanding among Arab states and intensifying consultation and coordination to address common challenges and safeguard the security and stability of the region.

Both sides affirmed their commitment to building on the momentum currently characterizing relations between their two countries and to following up on the implementation of the outcomes of the ninth session of the Egyptian-Algerian Joint High Committee, in a manner that promotes bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic, trade, and investment fields, and opens broader horizons for partnership between the two countries.
