Palestinian prisoner killed in Israeli occupation prisons

Ramallah, Sept. 16 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian Prisoners Club and the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Commission announced on Wednesday the martyrdom of a Palestinian detainee in Israeli occupation prisons.

In a joint statement, the Club and the Commission said, "We were informed of the martyrdom of administrative detainee Muath al-Atarash, 21, from Hebron Governorate in the southern West Bank, at Ofer Prison. He had been held under administrative detention since last October without charge or trial, under the pretext of a secret file."

The statement noted that the martyr's family confirmed that "he did not suffer from any known health problems or illnesses prior to his detention, raising serious questions about the conditions he was subjected to during his captivity and the direct responsibility for the deterioration of his condition leading to his martyrdom inside the prison."

It affirmed that "the martyrdom of al-Atarash falls within the framework of the genocidal approach that the occupation authorities continue to practice against Palestinian prisoners and detainees, in the context of the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people, in which prisons and detention centers have been among its primary sites."

The statement pointed out that the accumulated data reveals that prisoners and detainees are facing systematic genocide through a series of established crimes, including torture, starvation, physical and sexual assaults, medical crimes, and denial of necessary healthcare, alongside policies of isolation and deprivation in conditions lacking the most basic elements of human life.
