Malaysia Condemns Attempt to Threaten the Security and Sanctity of Mecca

Kuala Lumpur, Sept 16 (KUNA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday condemned any attempt to threaten the security and sanctity of Mecca. In a statement, Ibrahim expressed Malaysia’s deep appreciation for the swift measures taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to protect residents and pilgrims in Mecca following the Houthi militia’s launch of a drone toward the holy city. He added that the incident underscored the urgent need to prevent further escalation in the region. He called for an immediate halt to attacks on civilian sites and urged all parties to refrain from any actions that could endanger holy places, emphasizing the need for restraint and for the parties concerned to pursue a peaceful resolution through dialogue without delay. Earlier, the Joint Command of the Coalition announced that the Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces had intercepted and destroyed a hostile drone launched by the Houthi militia that had attempted to enter the airspace of the holy capital (Mecca).
