Istanbul, September 16 (KUNA) – Organizers of the Formula 1 World Championship and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) announced on Wednesday the return of Turkey and Portugal to host championship races in the 2027 season. In a statement on the social media platform X, the organizers said that the 2027 season, which will feature 24 Grand Prix races across 22 countries, will see the return of Turkey and Portugal, along with an increase in the number of Sprint races from six to ten.
The new season will kick off in Bahrain, where the Bahrain International Circuit will host pre-season testing from February 24 to 27, followed by the opening round of the championship from March 12 to 14. This will be immediately followed by the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah.
After the double-header in the Middle East, the championship will move to Australia, Japan, and China, before heading to the United States for the Miami Grand Prix, and then to Canada. The European leg of the season will begin with the Monaco Grand Prix. Portugal will return to the championship calendar at the Portimão circuit after an absence since 2021, under an agreement covering the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
Turkey will also make its return to the championship for the first time since 2021, with the Istanbul Park circuit hosting the race from October 1 to 3. Turkey last hosted championship races in 2020 and 2021 before withdrawing due to high organizational costs. In April last year, Turkey signed a new agreement with Formula 1 to bring the Turkish Grand Prix back to Istanbul Park for five seasons, through 2031.
The season will conclude with a series of races in Austin (United States), Mexico City (Mexico), São Paulo (Brazil), and Las Vegas (United States), followed by the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, with the 2027 season wrapping up in December.
Among the most significant changes for the season, the number of Sprint races will rise to ten, up from six in the current season. Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco, and Abu Dhabi will host Sprint races for the first time. (End)
