Cairo, September 16 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy on Wednesday rejected any attempts to alter the geographic and demographic reality in Palestinian territories, warning against plans to annex the West Bank, intensify settlement activity, carry out forced displacement, and plunder land. The Arab League said in a statement that Fahmy made these remarks during a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, which focused on developments concerning the Palestinian cause and the rapid changes in the occupied territories. The statement added that Fahmy listened to Abbas’s vision regarding the priorities of the current phase and ways to mobilize action on the international stage to capitalize on and strengthen the widespread support for the Palestinian cause among global public opinion, thereby helping to counter Israeli policies. Fahmy stressed that confronting attempts and plans aimed at changing the geographic and demographic reality in Palestinian territories constitutes an Arab and international responsibility and a duty for all defenders of the two-state solution. He highlighted the importance of mobilizing efforts and appealing to the human conscience to halt the Israeli occupation government’s plans to annex the West Bank through intensified settlement activity, forced displacement, land plunder, and the siege and isolation of Palestinian cities. He expressed his deep appreciation for President Abbas’s role in the Palestinian national project and his leadership of Palestine during this delicate phase in the history of the Palestinian people’s struggle, noting the Arab League’s support for the State of Palestine. He pointed out that this support was clearly manifested in the statement issued by the Arab League Council at the ministerial level during its ordinary session held earlier in September, emphasizing that strengthening the resilience of the Palestinian state and people is a key priority in the current phase. Fahmy reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause, stressing the League’s commitment to translating this firm stance into practical steps in the coming period to achieve a final and sustainable resolution to the Palestinian issue.
