Doha, September 16 (KUNA) – The State of Qatar strongly condemned and denounced in the strongest terms the Houthi group’s targeting of Mecca with a drone, affirming that any attempt to violate the sanctity of Mecca, the Holy House of God, the qibla of Muslims, and the purest place on earth constitutes a vile aggressive act, a grave transgression of all religious, moral, and humanitarian red lines, and a blatant provocation of the feelings of more than one billion Muslims worldwide.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the sanctity, security, and safety of pilgrims visiting holy sites must under no circumstances be targeted, threatened, or exploited in conflicts. It warned that actions endangering Mecca and the holy sites would represent a highly dangerous escalation and a disregard for their immense religious and spiritual significance in the hearts of all Muslims.

The ministry expressed Qatar’s full solidarity with the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for all necessary measures and steps to protect its security, the integrity of its territory, and Islamic holy sites, as well as the guests of the Most Merciful. It also expressed full confidence in the Kingdom’s ability to safeguard the security of the Two Holy Mosques and counter any threats to their safety.

The ministry reaffirmed Qatar’s firm and unequivocal rejection of attacks on civilians and holy sites, calling for respect for the sanctity of these sites and for shielding them from the repercussions of regional conflicts and escalation.

Earlier, the Joint Forces Command of the coalition announced that the Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces intercepted and destroyed an enemy drone launched by the Houthi militia, which had attempted to enter the airspace of the holy capital (Mecca). (End) S S S / T M A
