Cairo, Sept 16 (KUNA) — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi reaffirmed today, Wednesday, his country’s stance rejecting all forms of Israeli escalation and violations against the Palestinian people.
In a statement, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, said this position was expressed during a meeting between President Sisi and his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas. Sisi emphasized that the Palestinian issue would remain the central issue in the region until it is resolved in a just and comprehensive manner.
El-Shenawy added that Sisi highlighted Egypt’s strenuous efforts to support the brotherly Palestinian people and to achieve a settlement in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, ensuring that the Palestinian people attain their full rights, foremost among which is the establishment of their independent state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He described this as the only path to achieving lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
Sisi affirmed Egypt’s continued efforts, in coordination with mediators, to implement the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip reached during the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit in October 2025. He stressed the necessity for all parties to abide by the agreement’s provisions, including halting escalation, ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid, and creating an environment conducive to early recovery and reconstruction.
In this context, Sisi reiterated Egypt’s firm stance rejecting the displacement of the Palestinian people or any attempt to liquidate the Palestinian cause, reaffirming his country’s support for the Palestinian Authority and its efforts to achieve consensus among various Palestinian factions, thereby enhancing the interests of the brotherly people.
For his part, Abbas appreciated Egypt’s significant efforts in supporting the Palestinian cause and protecting the rights of the Palestinian people. He briefed his Egyptian counterpart on the latest developments related to the Palestinian issue, including the tragic situation in the West Bank resulting from Israeli occupation policies, and expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s historic and steadfast role in supporting the Palestinian cause and achieving a permanent and just settlement.
Abbas stressed the importance of continued consultations between the two countries regarding the situation in Palestinian territories and regional developments, a stance welcomed by President Sisi. It was agreed to intensify political coordination mechanisms in the coming period across all levels. (End) A.S.M./M.Kh.
