Deputy Minister of Health Honors Professor Musa Khorshid, Winner of Global Leadership Award in Bariatric Surgery

Kuwait City, September 16 (KUNA) – Kuwait’s Undersecretary of Health, Sheikh Dr. Salman Khalifa Al-Sabah, honored Professor Mousa Khurshid, a specialist in surgery, bariatric surgery, and endoscopy, for receiving the Pioneer Award from the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), in recognition of his scientific and professional contributions and pioneering achievements.

In a press statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health said that Dr. Salman Al-Sabah emphasized that the achievements attained by Kuwaiti medical professionals on international platforms are a source of pride and reflect the rich capabilities of Kuwait’s health and academic systems.

The ministry added that Professor Khurshid received the award during the IFSO World Congress held in Toronto, Canada, where he was honored alongside four American surgical scientists in recognition of his career and contributions to the advancement of bariatric and metabolic surgery.

It noted that this honor adds to a distinguished record of international achievements, having been awarded Honorary Fellowship by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) in 2021, and Honorary Fellowship by the American Surgical Association (ASA) in 2024, further underscoring the scientific standing reached by Kuwaiti medical professionals and their impactful contributions to advancing surgical practice globally.

The ministry quoted Professor Khurshid as expressing his pride in this recognition, which serves as motivation to continue his contributions and elevate the country’s name in medical forums, while commending the ministry’s support for national talents and its continuous encouragement of scientific and professional excellence.
