US Secretary of State praises Oman's important role in de-escalating tensions in the region

Washington, Sept. 15 (KUNA) -- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised on Tuesday the "important" role played by the Sultanate of Oman in de-escalating tensions in the region.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said in a statement that the remarks were made during a phone call between Secretary Rubio and his Omani counterpart, Badr Al-Busaidi.

The spokesperson noted that Secretary Rubio acknowledged during the call Oman's significant role in mitigating regional tensions, adding that Rubio condemned Iran's recent attacks on commercial vessels and countries in the region.

According to the statement, Rubio reaffirmed the United States' commitment to ensuring that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon and to safeguarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, while expressing support for deepening relations between Oman and the United States.
