(Winter Games): Youth turnout for training course to teach ice skating skills

KUWAIT, Sept. 15 (KUNA) -- Fahad Al-Ajmi, President of the Kuwait Winter Sports Club, affirmed that the training course on ice skating skills, organized by the club in partnership with the General Authority for Youth and Sports and lasting approximately two months, witnessed significant participation among young people, particularly those of younger ages.
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Tuesday to mark the conclusion of the course, Al-Ajmi stated that the program successfully attracted around 150 trainees in each of the four training periods, enabling the maximum number of participants to be involved throughout the training days.
He explained that this sports gathering aims to promote winter sports among a large number of promising young trainees, praising their commitment and their efforts to make the most of this distinguished training program.
Al-Ajmi noted that the training program served as an important milestone for discovering young talents to join one of the five winter sports teams overseen by the club: ice hockey, curling, figure skating, speed skating, and ice skating.
He added that the club provided 10 trainers from its staff to supervise the trainees, guide them, and impart the basic skills of ice skating, expressing his gratitude to all the club’s sports staff for their outstanding work during the program period.
Al-Ajmi highlighted that the cooperation with the General Authority to organize this event, which is part of the “Your Summer with Us 2026” program, reflects the club’s dedication to providing opportunities for young Kuwaitis who love winter sports to practice them and spend their leisure time during the summer vacation in a beneficial manner. He also commended the Authority’s support for the club in its efforts to develop Kuwaiti winter sports.
For his part, Fahad Al-Mutairi, the General Authority for Youth and Sports representative for the program and Director of the Events and Community Partnerships Department at the Authority, told KUNA in a similar statement that this course is one of nine included in the program across various Olympic sports, aimed at encouraging young people and children to engage in sports.
Al-Mutairi noted that the trainees in this course received sufficient training hours under the supervision of competent trainers who taught them the fundamentals of ice skating. He extended his thanks to the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Winter Sports Club for their cooperation and for providing all the necessary conditions for the success of this sports initiative.
The final day of the course was attended by a large number of trainees, their parents, and several guests, including Yuraj Chmelar, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Kuwait. The event also featured several performances of artistic ice skating, along with the awarding of honors to outstanding trainees and the trainers who supervised the course.
