Launch of joint military exercises between India and the United States in Uttarakhand

New Delhi, Sept 15 (KUNA) -- India and the United States today launched the 22nd edition of the joint military exercise Yud Abhyas at the outdoor training center in the Oli area of Uttarakhand state in northern India. The Indian Ministry of Defense said in a statement that military officials from both countries addressed the participating forces, which include 600 personnel from each side, noting that the exercises are being conducted simultaneously at Oli in Uttarakhand and the Mahajan live-fire range in Rajasthan state in northwestern India. The statement clarified that the exercises aim to enhance the joint military capabilities of both armies in employing integrated combat groups in mountainous and semi-mountainous terrain, with a focus on operations primarily reliant on infantry forces. It added that the exercises will strengthen operational interoperability, facilitate the exchange of best field practices, and reinforce mechanisms for joint planning and execution. The training will include the use of drones and autonomous systems for surveillance and reconnaissance, as well as demonstrations of modern weapon systems at the Mahajan firing ranges. Additionally, specialized experts from both armies will exchange views on emerging technologies and developments in multi-domain warfare. These exercises provide an opportunity for both armies to share tactics, techniques, and procedures, and to enhance their ability to conduct coordinated military operations across diverse terrains and operational environments.
