(Ministry of Health) Launches National Sepsis Awareness Campaign

Kuwait City, September 15 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Health, represented by the Antimicrobial Resistance Unit at the Kuwait Center for Disease Control and Prevention, launched today, Tuesday, the national campaign to raise awareness about sepsis, under the slogan “Stop Sepsis, Save Lives,” in the presence and patronage of Assistant Minister Sheikh Dr. Salman Khalifa Al-Sabah.

In a press release, the Ministry stated that the campaign, held in conjunction with World Sepsis Day, which falls on September 13 each year, aims to raise community awareness of the disease’s risks and the importance of early detection, as well as to enhance the awareness and readiness of healthcare workers to recognize its signs and manage it promptly.

It explained that sepsis, also known as blood poisoning, is a life-threatening condition that can arise from the body’s extreme response to an infection. Many causes can be prevented by adhering to hand hygiene, food safety, breastfeeding, and receiving recommended vaccines, along with seeking medical care promptly when concerning symptoms appear.

The statement quoted Assistant Minister Al-Sabah thanking medical staff and those responsible for organizing the campaign for their efforts in promoting health awareness, and expressing his hope to continue and intensify awareness campaigns directed at the public and healthcare workers.

For his part, Dr. Hussein Al-Shammari, Head of the Antimicrobial Resistance Unit, stated that the campaign represents a practical step toward strengthening national preparedness to manage sepsis by standardizing clinical procedures, improving the efficiency of early diagnosis, and supporting hospital medical teams with evidence-based policies and protocols.

Al-Shammari emphasized that preventing sepsis, detecting it quickly, and initiating appropriate treatment at the right time are essential factors that contribute to saving lives and reducing health complications.

The campaign launch, held at Jabir Al-Ahmad Hospital, was attended by Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs Dr. Al-Mundhir Al-Hasawi and several senior Ministry officials. The campaign’s activities will involve participation from seven general hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health, in coordination with their administrations. (End) M.N.M. / N.W.F.
