Kuwait City, September 15 (KUNA) – The Kuwait national modern pentathlon team will compete tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Asian Games being held in Nagoya, Japan, under the auspices of the Kuwait Olympic Committee. The men’s team will be represented by Mohammed Al-Sahebi, while the women’s team will feature Rutaj Abdulhussain and Habiba Al-Thuwaini.
In a press statement on Tuesday, Nasser Al-Waleed, president of the Kuwait Modern Pentathlon Club, said that Kuwait’s participation in this edition of the Asian Games is among the most significant achievements of the past four years, as qualification for the event is achieved through a rigorous process.
Al-Waleed explained that preliminary qualifiers precede the Asian Games, during which 36 male and 36 female athletes from across Asia compete directly in the semifinals. This means that Kuwait’s Mohammed Al-Sahebi, Rutaj Abdulhussain, and Habiba Al-Thuwaini will advance directly to the Asian Games semifinals. He wished them success at this major sporting event.
He noted that the competition comprises the five official pentathlon disciplines, all performed by a single athlete within one and a half hours: obstacle racing, swimming, fencing, running, and laser shooting.
Al-Waleed extended his gratitude to Kuwait Olympic Committee Chairman Sheikh Fahad Nasser Al-Sabah Al-Sabah, Vice Chairman Sheikh Mubarak Faisal Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, General Director of the Kuwait Olympic Committee Mohammed Al-Khalifa, and all members and staff of the Committee and the Public Authority for Youth and Sports for their continuous support of the nation’s modern pentathlon champions.
