Qatar reaffirms support for diplomatic efforts to ensure freedom of maritime navigation

Doha, September 15 (KUNA) – Ibrahim Al-Hashemi, Director of the Media and Communications Department at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirmed Qatar’s support for all diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring freedom of maritime navigation, emphasizing the importance of reaching a comprehensive agreement that achieves sustainable peace in the region.

Speaking during the weekly press briefing at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, Al-Hashemi stated that “Qatar supports reaching an agreement concerning the Strait of Hormuz,” stressing that the priority at the current stage lies in achieving consensus among all parties to find a resolution to this crisis. He underscored that freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is vital for all countries worldwide, noting that Qatar works tirelessly with its regional and international partners to reach a consensus on the matter.

Al-Hashemi reiterated that the closure of sea and waterways should not become a routine occurrence, adding that it is unacceptable both to Qatar and to the international community. He called on the entire world to unite against any measures that could disrupt freedom of navigation.

He said, “The world has suffered enough from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and therefore it cannot bear the cost of also closing the Bab al-Mandab Strait,” warning that disrupting navigation in both straits would have catastrophic repercussions.

Al-Hashemi affirmed that Qatar is advancing dialogue and diplomacy to achieve a peaceful resolution to such conflicts, adding that “this is not a difficult or impossible task, and the only viable solution in the end will be through negotiations.”

In this regard, he noted that a Qatari delegation will participate in the proceedings of the United Nations General Assembly, with discussions on this crisis topping the agenda of the Qatari delegation during its meetings. (End) S.S.S / S.M.A
