French Foreign Minister: Russia's targeting of railway lines on the Ukrainian border is "unacceptable"

Paris, Sept 14 (KUNA) -- French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said on Monday that the “unacceptable” Russian strikes targeting railway lines located just hundreds of meters from the Ukraine-Poland border were aimed at deterring us. The French minister made the remarks on social media following an incident in which a train was hit by a Russian drone near the Ukrainian-Polish border, shortly after former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and senior European security officials had passed through that route.

Ukrainian authorities reported no casualties from the strikes in the Yahodyn area, which damaged a locomotive, and noted that all passengers had been evacuated.

Barrot wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account that “the unacceptable Russian strikes on railway lines – which targeted trains just a few hundred meters from the border between Ukraine and Poland, a border shared with the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) – were aimed at deterring us. Yet when Europeans unite, nothing can stand in their way.” He added, “The accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO is the best proof of that.”

Johnson and other European national security advisers, including Briton Jonathan Powell, had previously traveled through the same line aboard another train on their return from a conference held in Kyiv. (End) M.B. / M.M.J.
