US Vice President: Concerned about Houthi militia's control of Perim Island; closely monitoring the matter

Washington, Sept 14 (KUNA) – U.S. Vice President JD Vance expressed concern on Monday over the Houthi militia’s control of Perim Island in the Red Sea, affirming that the situation is being monitored “very closely.” Speaking to reporters at an airport in Kansas, Vance said, “We are in constant contact with the Emiratis, Saudis, and other affected parties in the region,” emphasizing that it is “a matter receiving close attention and careful follow-up from the U.S. administration.” He added, “We have held direct talks with the Houthis themselves. Therefore, we feel we are on top of the situation and have a clear grasp of the details.” Noting that “the situation is highly volatile and subject to constant change,” he stressed that “we will continue to monitor it while ensuring the protection of core U.S. interests.” The Houthi militia seized Perim Island, also known as Mayun Island, located in the strategic Bab al-Mandab strait, last Friday.
