Libyan-American talks on enhancing cooperation and supporting the unification of security and military institutions

Tunis, Sept 14 (KUNA) -- The Deputy Minister of Defense of Libya’s Government of National Unity, Abdul Salam al-Zoubi, held talks today, Monday, with Jeremy Brent, the U.S. Department of State’s Senior Advisor for Libyan Affairs, to discuss ways to enhance military cooperation between Libya and the United States and to support efforts aimed at unifying Libya’s military and security institutions and raising their professional standards.

The Libyan Government of National Unity’s office said in a statement that the meeting reviewed developments in the political process and Libyan efforts to create the necessary conditions for holding elections, including the outcomes of the “4+4 Committee” tasked with preparing the legal framework for elections and with reconstituting the High National Elections Commission, as well as the importance of building on previously reached Libyan consensus.

Yesterday, Sunday, Jeremy Brent, the U.S. State Department’s Senior Advisor for Libyan Affairs, also held talks with Libyan Government of National Unity head Abdul Hamid Dbeibah on recent political developments in Libya and the outcomes of the “4+4 Committee.” (End) shbm / amh
