Egyptian Foreign Minister and UN Envoy Stress Importance of Reaching a Comprehensive Political Settlement in Sudan

Cairo, Sept 14 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to Sudan, Pia Havisto, stressed on Monday the importance of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, reaching a comprehensive political settlement, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid, and alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that this came during a meeting between the two sides, which discussed the latest developments of the Sudanese crisis and the regional and international efforts undertaken to halt escalation and support de-escalation tracks.

During the meeting, the Egyptian minister outlined his country’s firm position supporting Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions, emphasizing the importance of respecting the principle of “Sudanese ownership in supporting stability and ending the conflict,” which contributes to achieving a comprehensive political settlement that safeguards Sudan’s sovereignty and meets its people’s aspirations for security, stability, and development.

For his part, the UN envoy praised Egypt’s supportive role in ensuring Sudan’s security and stability, as well as the efforts Egypt is undertaking at the regional and international levels to contribute to ending the crisis.
