The first half ended goalless, and the score remained unchanged until the 84th minute, when midfielder Alejandro Grimaldo scored the opening goal for the capital club from a successful penalty kick. In the final minute of regular time, Canadian striker Jonathan David added a second goal, while Julian Alvarez sealed the win with a third and final goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time. With this result, Atletico Madrid moved up to 10 points, placing fourth in the overall standings, while Real Sociedad remained on seven points, sitting in 12th place.
