Lebanon: Israeli occupation army launches airstrikes and carries out bombings in the south

Beirut, September 13 (KUNA) -- The Lebanese National News Agency reported on Sunday that several towns in southern Lebanon came under Israeli occupation air raids, alongside explosions targeting properties in villages and towns. The agency added that the occupation army carried out a major explosion in the town of Zoutar al-Sharqiya, which had earlier come under artillery fire, and also executed a major explosion in the town of Kounine. It noted that warplanes launched raids targeting Nabatieh al-Fawqa, the Ali al-Taher forest on the outskirts of the town, as well as Kafartabnit and Mansouri, and the area between the towns of Mifdoun and Zoutar al-Sharqiya. The National News Agency reported that the mayor of Nabatieh al-Fawqa contacted the Lebanese Army to allow residents to enter Nabatieh al-Fawqa and Kafartabnit, after young men attempting to enter were fired upon by the Israeli occupation army. In a related development concerning Israeli occupation attacks, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam made an evening phone call to the mayor of Kafrshuba and Dr. Qasim al-Qadri, head of the Warkaoun Municipalities Union in the south, condemning the arrest of al-Qadri by an Israeli occupation army patrol. A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said that Salam assured the safety of the mayor, reaffirming the state’s support for the people of Kafrshuba and all residents of Warkaoun, and backing their resilience. Al-Qadri had been subjected to direct questioning and an on-site investigation by an occupation patrol, which detained him while he was at the site of the main water tank that supplies the town of Kafrshuba and pumps water to its neighborhoods. A statement issued by the municipality noted that patrol members confiscated al-Qadri’s mobile phone and interrogated him briefly at the site before releasing him. (End) A.Y.B./M.A.H.A.
