Minister of Development: "Amna" competition enhances plastic waste sorting culture and reinforces environmental sustainability concepts among students
Kuwait City, 13 Sept (KUNA) – State Minister for Development and Sustainability, Dr. Reem Al-Faleh, said on Sunday that the fourth edition of the “Amna School” competition aims to enhance the culture of sorting and recycling plastic waste and to instill concepts of environmental sustainability among students.
In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Minister Al-Faleh added that she met with Sanaa Al-Ghamlas, Chief Executive Officer of Amna, a non-profit plastic collection company, and Farah Shaaban, Chief Operating Officer, reaffirming her commitment to sponsoring the competition in its new edition.
She praised the competition, which targets students in government schools across all educational stages, noting that the meeting discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and support national initiatives that contribute to reducing waste, supporting the circular economy, and achieving the targets of “Kuwait 2035.”
For her part, Al-Ghamlas stated in a press statement that the competition aims to promote the culture of sorting plastic waste at the source, encourage recycling, and raise awareness of sustainability among various segments of society.
She noted that the Amna team presented, during the meeting with the Minister of Development, the company’s journey and its environmental and community initiatives, foremost among which is the competition targeting government school students. The initiative focuses on transforming sustainability concepts into daily behavior through awareness, participation, and measuring the quantities of plastic collected by students for recycling.
Al-Ghamlas commended Dr. Al-Faleh’s sponsorship of the competition, emphasizing that this support represents a significant boost to Amna’s journey and its mission, which originated from Kuwaiti society and aims to build sustainable environmental behavior starting from the individual and extending to the school, family, and state institutions.
For her part, Shaaban said in a similar statement that this sponsorship is crucial for supporting the continuity of Amna and constitutes a significant added value to the competition, which is also sponsored by the Ministry of Education for the fourth consecutive year under the supervision of the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs.
She stressed that the sponsorship by the Ministry of Development adds value from the government sector, alongside the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Interior represented by the Environmental Police, the Green Urban Development Initiatives Committee, and Kuwait Oil Company.
