Arab League calls for rethinking mechanisms to address people's aspirations in employment
Cairo, September 13 (KUNA) -- Dr. Raed Al-Jabouri, Director of the Department of Organizations at the Arab League, affirmed that the entire world, including the Arab region, is witnessing rapid transformations and developments that necessitate rethinking the mechanisms and procedures for addressing the aspirations and needs of Arab peoples in the fields of employment and the labor market.
In his speech during the opening session of the 52nd session of the Arab Labor Conference on Sunday, Al-Jabouri noted that technological advancement and artificial intelligence have replaced many professions where human labor was the core element, alongside the emergence of new jobs requiring a workforce equipped with new skills and knowledge to keep pace with these changes.
He added that the Arab Labor Organization is diligently working to respond to these transformations, aiming to achieve the sustainable development sought by economic and social policies in Arab countries, in partnership with civil society organizations and private sector enterprises.
He praised the Organization’s General Report, titled “Sustainable Economic Growth Towards Inclusive and Just Social Development in Arab Countries,” which provides an analytical study of the relationship between economic growth and social justice, and proposes pathways to translate growth into tangible realities. The report also focuses on enhancing productivity, improving competitiveness, expanding permanent investment, strengthening governance, and promoting competitive and technological transformation to reduce developmental disparities.
Al-Jabouri clarified that the report underscores the importance of partnership among the three production parties and social dialogue, linking education and training to labor market needs. It supports improving infrastructure and developmental assistance to generate jobs, develop new programs, and enhance resources and fair, sustainable financing to achieve balanced economic and social impact.
He emphasized the importance attached by the Arab League Secretariat to enhancing the role of specialized Arab organizations and activating their contribution to the framework of joint Arab labor efforts. He called on the Arab Labor Organization to continue strengthening cooperation and partnership relations with Arab, regional, and international organizations and institutions to implement programs and activities of common interest.
He also renewed his call for the Organization to continue developing its own resources, in line with the provisions of the Economic and Social Council’s decisions on the matter, which consistently urge specialized Arab organizations to operate as think tanks and provide fee-based services to increase their self-financing resources, especially given the growing importance of the Organization’s areas of specialization in recent years.
The Kuwaiti delegation to the 52nd Conference is headed by Rabab Al-Asimi, Director General of the Public Authority for Manpower, and includes Faiz Al-Azmi, President of the General Union of Kuwaiti Workers, Firas Al-Awda, Deputy Director General of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with officials from the three production parties.
