Arab League Secretary-General condemns targeting of oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia

Cairo, Sept 12 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy on Saturday condemned the targeting of an oil pipeline in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by a number of drones launched from Iraqi territory, which resulted in casualties and material damage.

In a statement, Fahmy affirmed that the attack on the pipeline constitutes a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty, a serious threat to its security and stability, and a clear breach of the rules of international law and the United Nations Charter.

He stressed that targeting infrastructure and oil facilities, as well as energy transport lines, poses a direct threat to energy security and the stability of both the regional and international economies. He reaffirmed the Arab League’s rejection of the use of any Arab state’s territory as a launching pad for attacks against another Arab state or for undermining its security and stability.

Fahmy expressed the Arab League’s full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its steadfast support for the Kingdom in all lawful and necessary measures it takes to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its security and national assets, and ensure the safety of its citizens and residents on its territory.

He commended Saudi Arabia’s decision not to retaliate at this time, allowing the Iraqi government the opportunity to take the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such attacks on Arab neighbors launched from Iraqi territory. (End) MM/MMJ
