Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Indian Prime Minister Emphasize the Importance of Strategic Partnership Between Their Countries During BRICS Summit
New Delhi, Sept 12 (KUNA) -- The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi, underscored the importance of the comprehensive strategic partnership between their two countries, particularly in political, cultural, commercial, and energy fields. A statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that Modi expressed his appreciation during the meeting for the UAE’s active and constructive participation in BRICS under India’s presidency. The statement added that both sides welcomed the positive outcomes achieved within BRICS during India’s presidency and agreed to continue close cooperation through this platform to advance shared interests and priorities and to strengthen collaboration within the group. The statement noted that both sides commended “the progress made in bilateral relations across a wide range of sectors, and welcomed the announcement by the UAE-based International Holding Company of its investment in developing an integrated aluminum project in the state of Odisha, at a cost of $11.5 billion, representing the largest integrated investment in India’s aluminum sector.” It added that both sides highlighted “the important role played by LIAD, the newest UAE sovereign wealth fund, in deepening the bilateral partnership, and discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two countries in strategic and emerging fields, including defense, space, nuclear energy, technology, and innovation.” In a separate development, and according to the statement, Modi met with his Vietnamese counterpart, Le Minh Hung, and welcomed Vietnam’s participation in the BRICS summit as a partner country. The two sides exchanged views on various regional and global issues of common interest. Modi had also met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi with his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, and his Ethiopian counterpart, Abiy Ahmed Ali. A statement from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that Modi and his Malaysian counterpart discussed progress made in bilateral cooperation in several areas, including trade, investment, defense, security, semiconductors, infrastructure, the digital economy, energy, fintech, education, and tourism. According to the statement, Modi appreciated Malaysia’s ongoing support for strengthening relations between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and India, and the two sides exchanged views on major regional and global issues of common interest. Modi also met with his Ethiopian counterpart, Abiy Ahmed Ali, and they discussed economic cooperation and partnership, exchanging views on regional and international developments of common interest.
