Egyptian and Russian Presidents affirm the necessity of reaching a just settlement to the Palestinian issue

Cairo, Sept 11 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed on Friday the necessity of reaching a fair and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian issue based on the “two-state solution” and resolutions of international legitimacy.

In a statement, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy said this came during a meeting held by the two presidents on the sidelines of the 18th summit of the BRICS group of countries, held in the Indian capital, New Delhi. During the meeting, they exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, foremost among them the Palestinian issue.

In this context, el-Sisi outlined Egypt’s efforts to advance the implementation of the second phase commitments of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the need to ensure adequate and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the Strip’s residents.

Regarding the situation in Sudan, the two presidents discussed current developments and stressed the importance of preserving Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and national institutions. President el-Sisi affirmed that any infringement on the security, unity, and sovereignty of friendly Sudan constitutes a red line that Egypt will not allow to be crossed.

The meeting also touched upon the US-Iranian conflict, where the two presidents affirmed the priority of de-escalation and returning to the negotiation track to reach a comprehensive and sustainable agreement that resolves the crisis through peaceful means.

Regarding bilateral relations, the two presidents expressed their commitment to continuing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries in various fields, in the interest of both nations and their friendly peoples.

For his part, President Putin, according to the statement, affirmed his country’s commitment to continuing to strengthen cooperation ties with Egypt and contribute to supporting the Egyptian state’s efforts aimed at achieving comprehensive development and implementing major projects according to agreed timelines and specifications.
