Bahrain and Yemen Foreign Ministers Discuss Coordinating Positions at International Forums
Manama, September 11 (KUNA) -- Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani held a telephone conversation today, Friday, with Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Afrah Al-Zoubi to discuss prospects for cooperation between the two foreign ministries in the political field, diplomatic training, and coordination of positions at international forums.
The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the two sides discussed during the call the close fraternal relations linking the two countries and their peoples, and ways to strengthen them in various areas of common interest, which would serve shared interests and objectives.
The two sides also addressed international issues under discussion by the UN Security Council, given Bahrain’s non-permanent membership on the Council. They reviewed the outcomes of the emergency meeting convened by the Security Council yesterday at the request of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom, concerning the military escalation in Yemen, terrorist attacks by Houthi militias against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and maritime security in the region.
According to the statement, the two sides also discussed the serious military escalation in Yemen following the Houthis’ takeover of the coastal city of Al-Mukha, which overlooks the Red Sea and is close to the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Both sides emphasized that the continued targeting of maritime security by Houthi militias and the threat to freedom of maritime navigation constitute a blatant challenge to the international community and a direct threat to regional and international peace and security.
They stressed the necessity of supporting the efforts of the legitimate Yemeni government to restore security and stability to Yemeni territories, preserve Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and realize the aspirations of the Yemeni people for peace, development, and prosperity.
