Egyptian Foreign Minister and IAEA Director General Discuss Developments in the Iranian Nuclear File

Cairo, Sept 11 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Badr Abdelatty held talks today, Friday, with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the Agency, preparations for the Agency’s General Conference, and developments in the regional situation, notably the Iranian nuclear file.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the discussion took place during a phone call, during which Abdelatty expressed his country’s appreciation for the close cooperation and coordination with the IAEA, reflecting the depth of the partnership between the two sides in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy. He also praised the technical support provided by the Agency to Egypt under its technical cooperation program.

Abdelatty commended the selection of an Egyptian expert to serve as Secretary of the Agency’s Policy-Making Bodies, noting that this choice reflects the international recognition and trust accorded to Egyptian expertise and qualifications, and underscores the contribution of Egyptian cadres to various areas of the Agency’s work.

The statement added that the two sides discussed developments in the regional situation, particularly the Iranian nuclear file, emphasizing the importance of continuing to support the diplomatic track and efforts aimed at containing escalation and prioritizing political solutions, which would help spare the region further tension and preserve regional security and stability.
