Lebanese President stresses the importance of developing Beirut Port to restore Lebanon's economic standing

Beirut, Sept 11 (KUNA) -- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stressed on Friday the importance of investments aimed at developing Beirut Port, upgrading its infrastructure, and enhancing its competitiveness, which would contribute to restoring Lebanon’s economic standing. The Lebanese Presidency said in a statement that these remarks were made during Aoun’s meeting with Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Ramani, as well as Rudolf Saade, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group, and Marwan Nafie, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Investment of Beirut Port. Aoun added that reinforcing the port’s role constitutes a fundamental part of Lebanon’s efforts to regain its economic and logistical position in the region, noting that port development would not only impact the maritime transport sector but also the broader economy by facilitating trade, imports, and exports and enhancing Lebanon’s competitiveness. He clarified that investments of this nature serve as a key indicator of confidence in Lebanon’s capacity to recover and reclaim its economic role in the region. The meeting follows the launch of the project to expand the container terminal at Beirut Port, aimed at increasing the terminal’s capacity to three million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually.
