Egypt and Turkey: The Importance of Supporting Political and Diplomatic Tracks to Consolidate Regional Security and Stability
Cairo, Sept 11 (KUNA) — Egypt and Turkey stressed today, Friday, the importance of intensifying efforts to de-escalate tensions, prevent their spread, and support political and diplomatic tracks that contribute to consolidating regional security and stability. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that this came during a phone call between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, during which they exchanged views on the latest regional developments and the importance of continuing Egyptian-Turkish coordination regarding the crises affecting the region.
Regarding bilateral relations, the two ministers discussed prospects for developing the partnership between the two countries in the coming period, reflecting the progress witnessed in bilateral ties. They agreed to continue working to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation.
The statement also noted that the ministers discussed follow-up on the implementation of understandings reached during the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, held in Cairo in February 2026, presided over by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The two ministers emphasized the necessity of continuing preparations for the next meeting of the Council, to be held in Turkey.
On another note, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Abdelatty, during a separate phone call with his Liberian counterpart Sarah Nyanote, discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. They exchanged views on several regional issues of common interest.
The call also addressed recent developments in the regional situation in Africa, foremost among them the situation in Sudan. The two ministers discussed efforts aimed at supporting security and stability and resolving crises through peaceful means, particularly in light of Liberia’s non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council, and how this can contribute to supporting Africa’s priorities and defending its interests within the Council.
