India to host the 18th BRICS Leaders Summit tomorrow

New Delhi, Sept 11 (KUNA) -- India will host the 18th BRICS summit tomorrow, Saturday, with participation from Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and other leaders representing 11 countries from major emerging and developing economies. The Indian capital, New Delhi, is putting the final touches on hosting the group’s summit, which will bring together the leaders of Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, India, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. The theme of India’s BRICS presidency for 2026 centers on “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.”

Alongside Presidents Putin and Xi, the summit will be attended by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, and Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud will also participate.

Other attending leaders include Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, as well as several heads of international organizations, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and President of the New Development Bank Dilma Rousseff.

India assumed the BRICS presidency on January 1 of this year, marking the fourth time it has held the role, having previously presided in 2012, 2016, and 2021. (End)
