This Day in Kuwait History

Kuwait City, Sept 11 (KUNA) – September 11:

1968 – Kuwait joins the Arab Labour Organization, the first specialized Arab organization concerned with labor and workers’ affairs.

1977 – Kuwait’s Deputy Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, issues a decree appointing Burjis Hamoud Al-Burjis as the Director General of the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) at the rank of Undersecretary of State. He held this position until January 1992.

1993 – Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, issues Law No. 47 of 1993 concerning Housing Care, which establishes a public authority with an independent budget named the Public Authority for Housing Care.

1998 – Kuwait is chosen to host the permanent secretariat of the Association of Secretaries General of Arab Parliaments, in recognition of its standing at both the Arab and regional levels.

2011 – The Arab League announces the appointment of Kuwaiti Ambassador Adnan Al-Khudair as Assistant Secretary-General for Financial and Administrative Affairs at the League.

2018 – Ibrahim Al-Shatti, Undersecretary of the Amir’s Court, dies at the age of 86, after a long career of service in the Amir’s Court spanning approximately 51 years.

2025 – Dr. Emad Mohammed Abdulaziz Al-Otaiqi, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil, dies at the age of 69. (End) M.B.R. / N.S.N.
