Washington, Sept 11 (KUNA) – U.S. President Donald Trump defended his administration’s policies in the areas of security, energy, and defense, warning against a Democratic return to power in the midterm congressional elections scheduled for November 3. Speaking at the Republican National Committee conference in Dallas, Texas, on Thursday evening, Trump said, “The United States has succeeded in regaining its global leadership, economically and militarily, after years of embarrassment caused by the Democrats.” He added, “We have strengthened military investments and solidified the United States’ position as a superpower in defense and energy, and we have achieved the lowest crime rate in the past two years,” emphasizing the importance of the upcoming vote. Trump urged his Republican supporters to turn out in large numbers and vote strongly in November to defeat the Democrats, warning that if his party does not win, it will lead to the “destruction” of his achievements. Earlier, at the party conference on Wednesday, Trump pledged to give $5,000 to every adult American if Republicans retain their majority in Congress. Polls in the United States show a significant decline in the popularity of the U.S. president amid growing public anger over rising prices due to the war on Iran. On November 3, Americans will head to the polls to elect all 435 members of the House of Representatives and about one-third of the 100 members of the Senate in a process known as the “midterm elections,” which serve as a referendum on the current administration’s policies and can reshape Congress and define the remaining years of the U.S. president’s term.
