Lebanon: 4.2-magnitude seismic waves recorded following an explosion carried out by occupation forces in the south

Beirut, Sept 10 (KUNA) -- The National Center of Geophysics in Lebanon announced on Thursday that seismic waves were recorded across all its stations, resulting from a massive explosion carried out by Israeli occupation forces in the south. In a statement, the center said the seismic waves recorded from the explosion in the Ali Al-Taher area could be likened to an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 on the Richter scale.

On the ground developments front, the Lebanese National News Agency reported that Israeli military aircraft launched a series of airstrikes targeting the town of Nabatieh Fouqa in two waves, followed by two consecutive strikes on the town of Mansouri and its surroundings near the town of Majdaloun, south of the city of Sidon. The agency noted that the airstrikes also hit the vicinity of the town of Al-Qantara and Wadi Zibqin, in addition to targeting a house in the Al-Arish area on the outskirts of the towns of Haris and Haddatha, using missiles that led to its complete destruction. This occurred simultaneously with a massive explosion that shook the area east of the town of Khiam in the south of the country.

Earlier on Thursday, the Lebanese National News Agency had pointed out that Israeli occupation forces were deliberately employing new methods to demolish homes and residential neighborhoods without reaching them directly, by dropping drones carrying barrels filled with highly explosive materials and dropping them from the air onto rooftops before detonating them.

Southern Lebanon has been witnessing continuous military and ground escalation amid escalating violations and clashes along the southern border since March 2 last year, resulting in hundreds of casualties, the displacement of thousands of residents from border villages and towns, and severe damage to infrastructure and property.
