Lebanese President Emphasizes Importance of State Authority's Return to Southern Regions

Beirut, Sept 10 (KUNA) -- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stressed on Thursday the importance of restoring the authority of the Lebanese state to southern areas and standing by the local residents there to ensure the foundations of their resilience. The Lebanese Presidency said in a statement that this was stated in a speech delivered by President Aoun at the outset of a cabinet meeting at Baabda Palace. He began by saying that “the time has come for the Lebanese state to return to the South,” emphasizing that “this is our collective responsibility and our duty toward our people.” Aoun described the southern regions as “the core part of Lebanon,” noting that “every ministry must contribute its share to demonstrate our unwavering support for our people without any negligence.” The statement added that President Aoun extended greetings to the residents of the southern areas of (Nabatieh), (Sidon), and (Arab Salim), reaffirming the state’s full commitment to standing by them and making every effort to assist them. On another note, Aoun pointed to the laying of the foundation stone for the expansion of Beirut Port, describing this step as “a positive initiative that instills hope in all Lebanese.” He also called on all ministries to expedite development projects and coordinate efforts “to capitalize on the willingness of officials and businessmen in the United Arab Emirates to invest in Lebanon, following visits by two UAE delegations for this purpose.” (End) F.Z. / S.A.M.
