State of Kuwait Participates in the International Space Summit in Paris

Paris, September 10 (KUNA) -- Kuwait participated in the International Space Summit, which kicked off yesterday, Wednesday, in the French capital, Paris, for a two-day event co-organized by France and Germany. The summit aimed to discuss the future of the space sector and enhance international cooperation in addressing its scientific, technological, economic, and environmental challenges.

The Kuwaiti delegation to the summit was led by Dr. Amna Farhan, Director General of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), and included Dr. Hala Al-Jassar, Director of the Kuwait National Center for Space Research, alongside a number of leaders, officials, and representatives from space agencies, scientific institutions, and specialized companies from more than 90 countries.

In his opening address, French President Emmanuel Macron called for intensified efforts to strengthen European and international space capabilities and develop space technology to serve the communications sector, while enhancing space security and sustainability.

For her part, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of unifying European efforts and expanding investment in the space sector to boost competitiveness, security, and autonomy, while continuing international cooperation to ensure the safe and sustainable use of space.

The summit focused on three main pillars: developing the global space economy through international cooperation and supporting progress in science, technology, and space exploration; and enhancing space security through dialogue and partnerships.

Kuwait’s participation comes amid its interest in developing scientific research, building national capacities in space science and its applications, and strengthening communication with specialized international institutions. (End) M.B. / A.M.S.
