Libyan-Italian talks to enhance cooperation in military and defense fields

Tunis, Sept 10 (KUNA) -- Libyan Chief of General Staff, Field Marshal Salah al-Din al-Namroush, met with his Italian counterpart, Field Marshal Luciano Portolano, in Tripoli today, Thursday, to discuss ways to enhance joint military cooperation between the two countries in military and defense fields. The Libyan General Staff announced in a statement that the two sides reviewed prospects for strengthening joint military cooperation between Libya and Italy, particularly in the areas of training, qualification, and exchange of expertise, aiming to develop professional capabilities and improve the efficiency of military personnel. The statement conveyed that both sides praised the “positive” results achieved in recent years within the framework of cooperation between the two countries, while emphasizing the importance of building on these results and expanding the fields of cooperation and partnership to strengthen bilateral relations and serve common interests. The Libyan side reaffirmed its support for the Ministry of Defense’s efforts to enhance cooperation with the Italian side and its readiness to develop the prospects of joint partnership in various related fields, contributing to supporting training and qualification programs and the exchange of expertise, and serving the common interests of the two countries.
