US President Expects Iran War to End "Immediately" After Midterm Elections

Washington, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- U.S. President Donald Trump predicted on Wednesday that the war with Iran would end after the U.S. midterm congressional elections scheduled for November next year. In remarks to reporters before boarding his plane for Dallas to attend a Republican Party conference, Trump said, “The war with Iran will end immediately after the midterms,” attributing this to Iran’s inability to “hold out much longer.” He added that he was not seeking a deal with Iran over its nuclear program, noting that he was now pursuing something “bigger” than the nuclear agreement. Trump warned that “the whole world will face a big problem if Iran acquires a nuclear weapon.” Responding to a question about a phone call he had with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump described the conversation as “good,” noting that Putin wants to reach an agreement to end the war with Ukraine. In this regard, he said, “If both sides want to reach an agreement, that would be great.” (End) A.M.M./R.J.
