Kuwait's Junior Athletics Team Concludes Participation in the Arab Championship with Seven Medals
Cairo, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti national junior athletics team concluded its participation in the 12th Arab Junior (Under-18) Athletics Championships held in Cairo, winning seven medals in total: three gold, three silver, and one bronze.
Dr. Nasser Al-Jarallah, the technical director of the junior team at the Kuwait Athletics Federation, told KUNA on Wednesday that Kuwait’s participation in the current edition of the Arab Championships was “distinguished,” praising the achievements, medals, and new personal bests posted by the athletes.
He explained that the seven medals included two golds won by athlete Abdulrahman Al-Azmi in the triple jump, as well as a gold medal for athlete Yasmeen Walid in the high jump.
Al-Jarallah added that the team also secured three silver medals for athletes Abdul Kareem Al-Hasan (hammer throw), Abbas Al-Nasser (pole vault), and Fahad Al-Dhafiri (long jump). Al-Dhafiri is the youngest competitor in the championships. The team also earned one bronze medal, won by player Haider Al-Qattan in the 100-meter race.
He described the junior athletics team as “promising,” noting that it includes many talented athletes who managed to win medals and achieve good personal bests despite the strong competition and high level of the participating national teams at the Arab Championships.
The technical director emphasized that the National Teams Committee at the Kuwait Athletics Federation, chaired by Falah Al-Ajmi, has a future plan to make this team “the cornerstone and core foundation” of the senior national athletics team within three to four years, by focusing on training camps and bringing in top coaches to develop these athletes’ levels.
The championships, which kicked off last Sunday, featured 276 athletes representing 15 Arab countries: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Libya, Djibouti, and Egypt. (End) A.S.M. / M.A.A.
