Saudi Arabia welcomes the end of discussions on the implementation of the safeguards agreement in Syria

Riyadh, September 9 (KUNA) -- Saudi Arabia welcomed on Wednesday the adoption by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of the resolution concerning Syria, which led to the Board’s decision to discontinue consideration of the item on the implementation of safeguards, in light of the positive developments regarding the file and Syria’s cooperation with the Agency.

In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its appreciation to all member states of the IAEA Board of Governors for reaching full consensus on the resolution submitted by a group of Board members, namely Saudi Arabia, in its capacity as Chair of the Arab Group in Vienna, along with Jordan, Egypt, and Morocco. This outcome reflects support for the positive developments witnessed in the Syrian file.

Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its support for sisterly Syria and for all efforts and steps aimed at enhancing its security, stability, and sovereignty, as well as strengthening its national institutions, in a manner that contributes to realizing the aspirations of the brotherly Syrian people for a future characterized by security, stability, and prosperity.
